Ladyfest 2011

Ok Dayton, I know you are still hung-over from last weekend’s Dayton Music Fest, but take a couple Tylenol because this weekend is Ladyfest.

The 4 th Dayton Ladyfest is Friday, September 16 th and Saturday, September 17 th , at the Dayton Yellow Cab building on Fourth St.

The 2011 version of this not for profit music and arts festival for female artists includes over 40 visual artist, over 20 bands, and a number of vendors and performance artists.

Ladyfest is a global music festival that began in Olympia, Washington 11 years ago. But Dayton’s version, orchestrated by local promoter Mary Katherine Burnside, has become a premier event for the cities arts and music community.

“The Dayton Ladyfest is organized by volunteers and is a family event that people of all ages are welcome to attend. A group of local women who realized how many talented women live in Dayton felt that there was a need for the event to happen here,” said Burnside. (via the Dayton City Paper)

I think the line-up for this year’s event may be the best yet. It features one of my fav Cincinnati bands, The Seedy Seeds. Also on the bill is Dayton rock trio The Dirty Socialites, Dayton singer/songwriter Jayne Saches, and Dayton folk/singer/songwriter Paige Bellar.

Bellar, who played two great sets at last weekend’s DMF, is playing both nights at Ladyfest. Friday with her band, Jasper the Colossal, and Saturday she plays solo.

"I am honored to be playing both nights of Ladyfest yet again this year,” said Bellar. “Mary Katherine does a phenomenal job of bringing female musicians into the foreground. It is extremely important for young artists to know that the community supports them.”

Bellar recently released her first solo record entitled Paige Does Dayton . Download her new disc here: . Also catch her at the Southgate House later this month.
